Measuring the water equivalent of snow

Water equivalent of snow is the average amount of water existing as snow, i.e. the mass of snow per area unit. It is usually given as millimeters, as the numerical value of a water layer corresponding to the snow cover, in millimeters, is the same as that of the mass of the snow, in kilograms, within a square meter.
(I googled this)
